Innovation is often about asking the questions no one has ever asked before. And then turning those question marks into innovative exclamation points.
While exploring new active cooling possibilities for Climachill, the adidas Innovation Team asked: "How can we make the Clima benefit immediately experiential when the garment is put on?" This question led to the invention of our Aluminium Cooling Spheres.

In order to determine where these cooling dots should be placed, a "heat map" was created of primary, secondary and tertiary zones that can effect core temperature. The back neck is a primary cooling zone and it was chosen as the best place for these active cooling metals to be placed.
Every competitive athlete knows the difference between first and second place, Silver and Gold, one set up or one set down - is actually quite small, the better you get. Steady improvement and gaining small advantages is what drives top athletes. It’s also what drove us to develop Climachill.

And so the Climachill team asked an important question: How could our yarns perform better? If we could find a way to take a traditional yarn and increase its surface area without increasing its weight, could it transfer more heat away from the body? The answer to this question led to the development of our groundbreaking new, flat SubZero yarn.

"We took these yarns, added titanium to them and used them on the inner, skin facing areas of the shirt where they can help liberate the maximum amount of heat from the body." We’ve never made anything that releases heat as well as Climachill.
Once the multiple active cooling elements pull the excess heat and moisture away from the body, it is drawn into the highly breathable Polar fibres that make up the outer layer of Climachill. This next generation material is by far more breathable than anything we’ve ever created. The remarkably light and highly breathable fabric maximizes air permeability like an open mesh, allowing for maximum ventilation and evaporation. This allows heat and moisture to disperse and evaporate almost instantly, keeping you cool and dry during heated activity.
We conducted extensive evaporation tests on athletes in all conditions, especially extreme ones. We also conducted countless tests on Newton, our state of the art heat sensitive robot who helped us gather data and research in various types of extreme conditions. These laboratory tests and human perception confirmed that Climachill is the most breathable apparel we’ve ever created.
